Jermaine Jenas suggests West Ham United need to consider Carlo Ancelotti

Jermaine Jenas has told BT Sport 3’s UEFA Champions League Highlights Show (Wednesday, 09:45am) that West Ham United should consider a move to replace Manuel Pellegrini with Carlo Ancelotti, after the latter was sacked by Napoli.

Pellegrini is under enormous pressure as West Ham manager after suffering a dismal 3-1 defeat to equally struggling Arsenal at the London Stadium on Monday night. West Ham sit in a lowly 16th place, just a point above the drop zone.

Meanwhile, Ancelotti has been sacked by Napoli just hours after overseeing his side beat Belgian outfit Genk 4-0 to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League. Gennaro Gattuso is expected to replace the ex-Chelsea manager.

Former Tottenham and England midfielder Jenas believes West Ham should consider a move for the Italian, though Sky Sports have claimed that both Everton and Arsenal are interested in Ancelotti – with Everton even opening talks.

“Strange one, they win 4-0 and he is sacked,” Jenas said. “I understand there are differences between him and the hierarchy. He has got a lot of suitors. He did well at Chelsea, the Premier League will come calling. He’d be right at the top of the list for Everton, West Ham.”

TBR’s view – Would Ancelotti be a good West Ham appointment?

Without a doubt. Ancelotti is one of the best managers in European football and has proven that at some of the biggest clubs, such as PSG, Juventus, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and indeed West Ham’s London neighbours, Chelsea.

If the Hammers board do not believe Pellegrini is the man to take West Ham forward, then they must act quickly in order to bring Ancelotti to the London Stadium.
