Jermaine Jenas slams Jose Mourinho for bringing negative ‘energy’ into Tottenham dressing room

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has been critical of Jose Mourinho’s recent message to the dressing room.

Spurs are currently struggling under the management of the Portuguese boss, having lost their last four games and looking set for another trophyless season.

Of course, Tottenham have not been helped by the absence of star front-men Harry Kane Heung-min Son, who are out of action with respective hamstring and arm injuries.

However, Jenas, who spent eight years at White Hart Lane, was speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport when he suggested that the ‘energy’ Mourinho has been putting into the dressing room will not be helping matters.

“I understand that he hasn’t got one of the best strikers in Europe [Harry Kane] and you could probably put Son into that as also one of the best forward players in Europe… you are losing two of your best players.

“I think the energy that he is feeding out those press conferences, for me, personally, if I was in that dressing room, I would not enjoy it. It is very much ‘I am stuck with this lot’ and that is not what you want to hear.”

The appointment of Mourinho was supposed to bring silverware to Tottenham. However, the early signs of improvement have recently waned and Tottenham now need to perform wonders to overcome Leipzig in their Champions League tie.

The negativity at the club is clearly not helping matters and plenty of Tottenham fans and pundits feel that Mourinho might need to change his tune to get the best out of this current crop of players.
