Jermaine Jenas replied to Jack Grealish’s Instagram post following Aston Villa’s agonising defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday by insisting that the Villans skipper was the best player on the pitch.
Dean Smith’s men looked to have a fantastic opportunity to put a little more daylight between themselves and the bottom three during their clash with Spurs.
A Toby Alderweireld own goal had given the home side the lead early on. And Bjorn Engels equalised after Tottenham had gone 2-1 in front.
However, the game would take a cruel twist for Villa and Engels in stoppage-time. A simple ball forward went under the centre-back’s foot and allowed Son Heung-min to run through and bag the winner.
It is no surprise therefore, that Grealish’s post on social media expressed a lot of disappointment.
But in response, Jenas – who, of course, played for both clubs during his career – suggested that the Villa talisman can hold his head very high following his performance.
Grealish provided the assist for Engels’s goal. And he looked to be a threat all afternoon as Villa threatened to pick up a massive three points.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable season. He has scored seven goals and now provided six assists in the top flight.
Villa’s future at English football’s top table may have a question mark lingering over it. But one thing that cannot be questioned is that Grealish is doing everything he can to make sure that they go nowhere before next season.
