Jermaine Jenas hs told BBC Radio 5 Live that he believes Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been “poor” in his first three Premier League matches, despite scoring a brace against Aston Villa.
Kane, 25, was ineffective against Newcastle on Sunday afternoon at St. James’ Park, as Spurs suffered a shambolic 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United which is already likely to be a blow in their bid to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City.
England skipper Kane seem lethargic and unwilling to make runs against Newcastle, as Brazilian star Joelinton scored the only goal of the game – largely because of Davinson Sanchez’s poor positioning for the goal.
Jenas, who played for Tottenham and Newcastle during his career, believes Kane has been far below par this season despite scoring two goals in three league games – when asked why Spurs are already stuttering at this early stage.

“I’m going to be blunt about it, but Harry Kane has been poor,” Jenas said. “He’s not played well, as of yet. He got his two goals which disspelled he August situation, but the facts are that he did nothing today [Sunday].
“He didn’t do much against Manchester City or Villa in terms of his general play. It is a worry and I’m sure it is something that the manager will be looking at.”
TBR’s view – Kane needs time to get going, previous seasons suggest
Yes, perhaps the August goalscoring hoodoo will not affect Kane this time round, but it might not be goals that Kane struggles for in the first month of the season – but indeed it could simply be form.
Kane has notoriously struggled to score in the first handful of games and needs time to get going. It could just be that we see Kane get back to his best in September and October – regardless of how many goals he scores.
