Jermaine Jenas lambasts Tottenham, names five players that disappointed him in NLD against Arsenal
Jermaine Jenas has picked five Tottenham players that were either “poor” or “shocking” against Arsenal, during his analysis on Match of the Day 2.
Spurs suffered a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the first North London Derby of the season. At half-time, the scoreline read 3-0 as Arsenal shellshocked Spurs.
Emile Smith-Rowe opened the scoring with a neat finish, before the Arsenal no.10 set up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a left-footed pull-back.
Then, after a lucky deflection off a tackle from his Euro 2020 teammate Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka lashed a right-footed effort past Hugo Lloris.
Spurs did get a goal back in the second half through Son Heung-min, but Nuno’s side were miles off it. They lacked a game plan, bereft of any ideas.
Ex-Tottenham midfielder Jenas picked five players that disappointed him – including Harry Kane. Jenas said Tanguy Ndombele was “shocking”.
“The three wins papered over the cracks,” Jenas said. “Brilliant against City, but in the other games – the performances didn’t warrant the results.
“Dele was poor, Ndombele was shocking, Hojbjerg, Harry Kane. There is a number of names I could go through, trust me, Son as well was really poor.”

But could the same be said for Tottenham’s players? Jenas looked in pain when he was asked to analyse the defeat, Martin Keown alongside him.
Clearly, Jenas knows what the MLD means. He has played in it and is now watching it as a Spurs fan. Spurs needed that passion on the pitch.
The body language of Kane, Son, Dele Alli – in fact, the majority of Tottenham’s attackers was bizarre. No care, no desire, no tempo.
Ultimately, Spurs were easily beaten by a side that looked poor at the beginning of the campaign. Nuno has plenty to do at Spurs.
