Jermaine Jenas has hammered Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy in an interview with Football London for failing to get three deals over the line that Jenas believes would have been “gamechangers” for Spurs.

Tottenham have gone from finishing in the top four and reaching the Champions League final last season to sacking Mauricio Pochettino and sitting in seventh place – with fans hoping for Europa League football next term.

Spurs were linked with Juventus superstar Paulo Dybala, Manchester United ace Bruno Fernandes and Barcelona outcast Philippe Coutinho last summer – but for numerous reasons, Levy could not get the deals over the line.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jenas has criticised the Spurs supremo for failing to complete deals for any of the three aforementioned players – though Brazilian ace Coutinho remains available for a transfer.

“They were linked with Paulo Dybala and Philippe Coutinho and they would have been gamechangers for Tottenham if they could have got them over the line,” Jenas said.

“Bruno Fernandes was linked with Tottenham for a period of time and it just shows you if you go the extra mile you will get it back if you do find the quality out there you are looking for.”

TBR’s view – Should Tottenham go back in for two of the three?

Spurs simply did not meet Sporting Lisbon’s asking price for Bruno Fernandes, which is a shame as he is shining at Manchester United. He is not for sale, but moves to sign Dybala and Coutinho could still engineered.

Dybala has starred for Juventus this season but he has netted 14 and created 17 more in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo. Image rights prevented Dybala’s move last summer, while Coutinho joined Bayern.

This summer, Spurs may find that Juventus are just as willing to cash in on 26-year-old Dybala – while Barcelona are actively looking to get rid of Coutinho. Levy may have the chance to rectify his mistakes last summer.
