Jermaine Jenas hammers Jose Mourinho decision during Tottenham defeat
Jermaine Jenas made a damning assessment of Tottenham and Jose Mourinho after their 3-1 defeat to Manchester United yesterday afternoon.
The former Spurs midfielder was a pundit on Match of the Day 2 and made the comments during the show.
Tottenham were dreadful during the second half, conceding three goals and relinquishing a one-goal cushion over the Red Devils.
Jenas believes the difference came in the mindset of the two teams and hammered Jose Mourinho for the use of his bench.
He told Match of the Day 2: “It’s clear as day. You’ve got one team who wants to win the game in Manchester United, they’re making changes like Mason Greenwood coming onto the pitch.
“Then you’ve got Tottenham trying not to lose a game of football. Mourinho has put Lo Celso on and took Sissoko off. He’s got players like Dele Alli and Gareth Bale on the bench.
“It’s the mindset the team has had all season long and it’s the reason they won’t get in the Champions League.”
Mourinho couldn’t make it back-to-back wins over Manchester United after their 6-1 win over the Red Devils back in October.
After a strong first half Spurs went onto push the self-destruct button once again and relinquish a lead.
Mourinho’s team have now lost 18 points from winning positions this season and that simply won’t do.
The lack of game time for Bale and Alli has been bizarre and it had to be said that Tottenham fans would welcome a change of manager.
Jenas is right to question why the duo haven’t been used much and had either started against United, the scoreline might have shown a better complexion.
Instead, Tottenham now face a real fight to secure a Champions League spot for next season.
