Tottenham Hotspur completed a club-record move to land midfielder Tanguy Ndombele on Tuesday afternoon and Jermaine Jenas is delighted his old side have pulled off what could be a very significant transfer.
Spurs confirmed a deal for the 22-year-old, parting with a club-record figure that could eventually reach £62.8million for the France international. An initial £53.8million has been paid, according to BBC Sport.
He becomes the club’s record signing, eclipsing Davinson Sanchez’s £42million move from Ajax, and is a direct replacement for Mousa Dembele who left the club for Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F in January.
Dembele’s exit coincided with a drop in form for Spurs, but the hype surrounding Dembele is enormous given that he is already considered one of Europe’s best central midfielders at the moment. Jenas was delighted on Twitter.
Strong statement from Spurs, looking forward to seeing what Tanguy Ndombele brings to the team next season.

TBR’s view – Jenas is right, Ndombele the perfect signing
If you have seen clips of Ndombele strutting his stuff in the white of Lyon over the past 12 months, then you will know that the powerhouse midfielder is going to shine in the Premier League.
Much like Dembele, Ndombele is enormously strong on the ball but twins that with a long stride and enough pace to go past players – as well as the vision of an attacking midfielder. He can also shoot from long range.
Ndombele really does have it all, and it will provide an enormous boost to the entire Spurs team. Twinning Ndombele with the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks or even Eric Dier gives is a gigantic improvement.
