Jermaine Jenas has shared his concerns about Tottenham’s right-back area and believes it could be an issue for them.
Spurs offloaded Kieran Trippier this summer to Atletico Madrid to end his four-year spell in North London and it’s now up for others in the squad to step up.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino has three main options vying for the position and it was Kyle Walker-Peters that got the nod in the opening Premier League win against Aston Villa.
Serge Aurier is the more experienced option that was on the bench against Villa, while versatile defender Juan Foyth played at full-back in pre-season but is currently sidelined with an ankle injury until September (official Twitter).
Ex-Spurs midfielder Jenas has highlighted the right-back position as one that his former team have some problems with.
He’s also come to the conclusion that Pochettino has little faith in 22-year-old Walker-Peters.
“I am more worried about the right-back position after losing Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid because Pochettino does not seem to have much faith in Kyle Walker-Peters and things have not worked out for Serge Aurier,” Jenas told BBC Sport.
“It looks like Juan Foyth is going to be Pochettino’s man to fill the gap, but we will have to wait a little longer to find out because he has been sidelined by an ankle injury.”

TBR’s View:
Jenas’ comments on Walker-Peters are a little bizarre, especially as he got the nod of Aurier on the opening day.
Academy graduate Walker-Peters is someone still trying to really stamp his mark at first-team level, but has shown some positives signs when given a senior opportunity and it will be a major boost if he retains his spot at the weekend.
Spurs travel to reigning champions Manchester City on Saturday, so all eyes will be on Pochettino to see if he opts for the experience of Aurier.
It’s definitely unclear on who the number one right-back is right now, but fortunately there are options in the squad and there are plenty of competitions to rotate.
Walker-Peters could definitely still grow into an important player at Spurs and it doesn’t look like Pochettino has given up on him yet.
