Jermaine Beckford says what he is ‘hearing’ about Leeds star Patrick Bamford

Jermaine Beckford has claimed on the Doing A Leeds podcast that he is “hearing” Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford could be in line for an England call-up, as he continues to shine for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Bamford, 27, has now netted seven goals in eight Premier League matches – as well as laying on two assists. That should have been eight goals, had it not been for a decision Nigel Martyn told LeedsUnited.News was “ridiculous”.

His form has come as somewhat of a surprise to Leeds fans, after he managed just 16 goals last season for Leeds in the Championship. Question marks were brought up over his ability to go up a level and score, but he has.

Now, the former Chelsea star is being linked up with an England call-up and Leeds icon Beckford stated that he had heard the striker could be in line for a place in Gareth Southgate’s side sooner rather than later.

“There might be a cheeky England call-up I’m hearing as well,” Beckford said. “He’s only got a couple above him in the Premier League rankings. It is looking good for angry Pat. The way he took his goal was amazing.”

TBR’s view – Does Bamford deserve a chance for England?

It is amazing to see Bamford go from being so heavily criticised by Leeds supporters last season, to shining to the extent this season in the Premier League that he could be on the horizon of a chance to shine for England.

Tammy Abraham has hardly been as consistent, while Danny Ings is currently injured. Southgate mentioned £10million (Mail) Leeds signing Bamford, unprompted, after overlooking the striker for this month’s fixtures.
