Jermaine Beckford has suggested on Twitter that Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa should have used 21-year-old Pascal Struijk during Monday night’s defeat against Leicester City.
The versatile youngster could’ve slotted into a defensive midfield role to provide some extra physical steel, but he remained an unused substitute and the Whites started with a midfield trio of Mateuesz Klich, Pablo Hernandez and Jamie Shackleton.
Bielsa’s side were humbled 4-1 at Elland Road by Leicester, who were a huge threat on the counter attack and they earned three points that moved them up to second in the league table.
Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans puts the Foxes in front during a first-half that they stunned the hosts, but Stuart Dallas reduced the deficit in the 48th minute.
Despite some renewed belief in the second-half, Leeds couldn’t quite hit their top gear and the closest they came to equalising was when Spanish playmaker Hernandez struck the woodwork from outside the box.
Brendan Rodgers’ side executed their plan perfectly, with second-half goals from Jamie Vardy and Tielemans from the penalty spot giving them victory.
Beckford gave his response on Twitter to Leeds’ defeat:
TBR’s View:
Leeds were without Kalvin Phillips and Rodrigo on Monday night, who are two of the key figures at the Yorkshire giants and their absences were massively felt.
There is no doubt that Leeds’ future opponents will be looking at how Leicester and Wolverhampton Wanderers have beaten them already this season, as they’ve both implemented a counter-attacking system that worked effectively.
The Whites travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday for their final match before the international break and it’ll be interesting to see if Bielsa makes any changes in personnel.
