Jermaine Beckford has highlighted the importance of Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich.
The 29-year-old has started all six Championship games so far this season and is a real fan favourite at Elland Road.
He’s a box-to-box midfielder that has played offensively this campaign creating chances and being a goal threat, but could perhaps drop slightly deeper when Tyler Roberts returns from injury.
Klich is renowned for his immense work-rate and energy in the centre of the park, plus last season he was directly involved in 19 goals across all competitions in 50 games.
The Poland international has been away with his country during the break, but will be back soon to take up his spot in Marcelo Bielsa’s XI.
Ex-Leeds striker Beckford has praised Klich, while also stating that reports of a new deal would be brilliant news.
TEAMtalk reports that Leeds could open discussions with Klich about a new contract, as his current one expires at the end of the season.
“He’s another player that has been vitally important to the Leeds United team,” Beckford told Football League World.
“He always seems to put himself in the right place at the right times. He makes very few mistakes and he’s also a very exciting player.
“I think getting him to sign a new deal will only help to boost the confidence around the place that little bit more. That’s like another new signing.”
Klich has been a mainstay in the Leeds team during the last year and he epitomises the all-action style of football that Bielsa demands.
It’s vital that his contract situation is resolved quickly and it will be a boost to see him extend his stay in Yorkshire.
After a slow start to life at Elland Road that saw him loaned out, he deserves immense credit for sticking with it and the arrival of Bielsa saved his Leeds career.
The midfielder can on his day be a real force in the Championship and he’s capable of raising his levels still this season.
