Jermaine Beckford has heaped praise on Leeds star Tyler Roberts after the Wales ace was handed a start against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

Roberts, 22, has been under-fire from Leeds fans of late. He had only started one previous match in the Premier League for Leeds this season.

But he lead the line with Patrick Bamford playing 90 minutes for the club’s Under-23 side on Monday – as the England ace goes 10 games absent.

Leeds eventually won the evenly-contested affair after a corner from Raphinha was handled inside the Palace penalty area by Marc Guehi.

Following a VAR check, Raphinha stepped up and coolly – after a little step – scored past Vicente Guaita. Just a third Leeds win of the season.

Leeds legend Beckford was full of praise for Roberts – who was taken off in injury time after Raphinha’s penalty for defender Charlie Cresswell.

Beckford on Roberts: New lease of life for Leeds star, after win?

While Roberts will have hoped that a run of good form might have come earlier on during Bamford’s time on the sidelines – he will be delighted.

He did not stop running. Even towards the end of the match, he is seen chasing a Palace defender in the left-back area and getting a block in.

Roberts has been poor this season. His overall stats in the Premier League is below par, netting just one goal in 41 Premier League appearances.

But the ex-West Brom man can be happy with his efforts on Tuesday night. Hopefully, for Leeds fans, this is the start of a new lease of life for Roberts.
