Jermaine Beckford compares on-fire Leeds duo to Tottenham stars

Jermaine Beckford has told the Doing A Leeds podcast that he believes the “telepathy” between Leeds United duo Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klich is similar to that of Tottenham Hotspur stars Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Bamford, 27, remains in stunning form and there has even been talk of an England call-up. Indeed, all three of Klich’s Premier League assists this season have created Bamford goals – against Fulham, Villa and Palace.

That could have been four, had it not been for VAR to rule out a contentious Bamford chip earlier on in the 4-1 defeat to Roy Hodgson’s Eagles. The combination of both players is working well.

It is a similar story at Spurs with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min both in the form of their lives – creating goals for eachother on a regular basis. Beckford believes the understanding between Klich and Bamford is similar.

“It was the same combo again,” Beckford said. “Klichy, little flick on, Pat taking it on the chest and then absolutely flinging his laces at it into the bottom corner – goalkeeper no chance.

“It is the awareness from Pat to know when Mat has the ball, that he is going to look from him. It is like Spurs, with Kane and Son. There is a telepathy going on, they understand eachother. They trust eachother on the ball. It works.”

TBR’s view – Bamford and Klich good, but is it Tottenham level?

Son and Kane are world beaters and while Beckford is clearly not comparing ability between the Leeds and Spurs men, the connection between Bamford and Klich is only just emerging – while Son and Kane have had it for years.

Can Bamford and Klich provide the kind chemistry £22million (Mirror) star Son and £200k-a-week (Spotrac) Kane enjoy – to fire Leeds away from a relegation scrap? Yes, along as the defence is sturdy and they stay injury free.
