Jermaine Beckford has told Sky Sports on Saturday that Wolves powerhouse Adama Traore frustrates him, despite his explosive speed – amid reports that Leeds United are keen on the Spain international this summer.
Traore, 25, has managed just one goal and one assist in 29 league and cup appearances this season – failing to replicate the excellent stats of last season, in which he had a hand in 18 goals during his 54 appearances for Wolves.
Leeds are being linked. Football site 90Min claimed in the days leading up to the January window that Marcelo Bielsa is an admirer of the ex-Barcelona speedster, and that Wolves would be willing to accept offers of £40million.
But Leeds legend Beckford commented on Traore – stating he is far too inconsistent, and that it annoys him. However, he did state that Traore is one of the quickest players off the mark that he has seen in football.
“He annoys me. I’ll tell you why. He is so quick, explosively quick, one of the quickest players I think I’ve ever seen off the mark over five, ten or fifteen metres. But he’s so inconsistent,” Beckford told Saturday Night Football.
“And that’s the thing that frustrates myself, but also his teammates, his manager and the fans of Wolves as well. Everybody knows how good he is in terms of the quality he possesses. It’s just seeing it on that consistent basis.”
TBR’s view – Does Traore improve Leeds?
Well, he certainly offers them something different. He offers strength and massive speed, but a lack of end product – especially this season. He needs enormous confidence in his ability to get the best out of him.
Bielsa is renowned for having a distant relationship from his players, while also preferring the kind of player that works hard and has incredible fitness levels. Is that Traore? Is he worth £40million? Probably not.
He does give Leeds and any other side something different, but he probably does not improve Leeds.
