Jermain Defoe has handed Rangers a boost ahead of their upcoming clash at Ibrox this weekend, with the striker taking to Instagram to confirm his return to training.
Defoe is yet to play for the Gers this season after picking up an injury in the summer. As reported by Herald Scotland, he sustained a hamstring problem in the pre-season clash with Motherwell.
Steven Gerrard suggested this week, in comments reported by the Daily Record, that Defoe was close to making a return to full training.
And the striker has issued another positive update on social media. The former England international needed just two words to provide the kind of update that many Rangers fans would love to see on Thursday evening.
Here is Defoe’s post on Instagram…

It would be a huge surprise if Defoe was ready to feature this weekend. Nevertheless, it is still a big boost for Gerrard’s men.
The Gers are about to start a run of at least five games in the next three weeks. So it will be extremely beneficial to have Defoe back available.
Rangers do, of course, have more depth up front this season after a productive summer. But Defoe can still play an important role this season.
And it appears that he is edging ever closer to making his first appearance of the campaign for the Light Blues.
