Jermain Defoe has asked Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson on Instagram if he is on his way to Tottenham Hotspur in the coming weeks – amid reports Spurs are looking to sign the England international.
Wilson, 28, is expected to leave Bournemouth this summer after the Cherries suffered relegation to the Championship. Nathan Ake has already left, while Josh King, David Brooks and Aaron Ramsdale could also depart.
Four-time England international Wilson is expected to depart given he has scored 41 goals and created 16 more in 126 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth. The Sun claim Spurs want to beat Newcastle to his signature.
It is believed that Spurs are keen to try and land Wilson for a knockdown price of £10million, but whether they can strike a deal with £110,000-a-week Wilson remains to be seen. Defoe asked Wilson on Instagram, if he was joining.
TBR’s view – Wilson is perfect for Tottenham
Spurs need a striker that is going to accept playing second fiddle to Harry Kane. But they also need a striker that is proven in the Premier League and when Kane is absent, can thrive in his place.
Vincent Janssen struggled due to a lack of experience in England. Fernando Llorente was better, but was entering the final stages of his career and was not the striker he was at Bilbao or Juventus.
Wilson is proven in England, still of a good age and cheap. The perfect addition as cover for Kane.
