Jeremie Frimpong has told Celtic’s official website that it was a dream come true to make his first-team debut for the Hoops, and commented on the reception he received from the Parkhead faithful.

The former Manchester City man made his Celtic bow in Wednesday’s Scottish League Cup quarter-final tie with Partick Thistle. And it was to be an extremely good night for the competition’s holders.

Neil Lennon’s men stormed into the last four with a 5-0 win. Olivier Ntcham bagged a brace, while Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Tom Rogic and Scott Sinclair all also got on the scoresheet.

Frimpong put in a man of the match display for the Bhoys. And he was given a fantastic ovation when he was replaced by Jack Hendry with 11 minutes remaining.

And after the game, the 18-year-old explained just how delighted he was with the reaction from the Celtic fans.

“It was amazing, a dream come true,” he told the club’s official website. “It was my first professional game and the fans – I love them already. To hear them when I came off was amazing.

“I’ve been trying to make a good impression and I found out two or three days ago I was starting. I played well and now I have to keep that going.”

The early signs suggest that Frimpong is going to be an absolutely outstanding signing for the Scottish Premiership champions. Perhaps, he may follow in the footsteps of Oliver Ntcham, who made the same move in 2017.

There is a lot of competition at full-back. But Frimpong’s debut hinted that he is definitely one player that Celtic fans can be extremely excited about ahead of the coming years.
