Hatem Abd Elhamed has posted an emotional message to Celtic supporters on Instagram after touching down in Israel ahead of a return to Hapoel Be’er Sheva – and plenty of Hoops stars have responded, as has Jeremie Frimpong.
Elhamed, 29, joined Celtic from Be’er Sheva in the summer of 2019 for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.5million. However, it has been a difficult 18 months for the Israel international.
His wife and son remained in Israel for the entirety of the move, while Elhamed spent his time at Celtic by himself. He managed just 30 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops, with injury preventing him from playing more.
Now, he has returned to his homeland and reunited with his family. Emotional footage has already reached social media that sees Elhamed embrace his son having landed ahead of a Be’er Sheva return. He posted on Instagram.
He rejoins the club where he previously played 61 times. The Scottish Sun report that a fee of £800,000 – around half the figure Celtic spent to sign him – has been agreed between clubs.
Plenty of Celtic teammates responded on Instagram, including Scott Brown, who all sent the defender heartfelt messages on his post. Frimpong, who recently left to join Bayer Leverkusen, also commented.
Mo Elyounoussi and Albian Ajeti both stated he would be missed.
