Jermaine Jenas has told BT Sport (broadcast on 12/10 from 19:00) that he would be intrigued to see Lucas Moura get more opportunities at right wing-back for Tottenham Hotspur as he feels that he has a lot more quality than countryman Emerson Royal.

Spurs received a big boost ahead of their Champions League tie with Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday. The 30-year-old has been sidelined for a number of weeks with a calf injury.

But Lucas made his return to the fold for Wednesday. And he came on for the final few minutes in the 3-2 victory which saw Tottenham go top of their group.

Ahead of his introduction, Jenas speculated about the possibility of Lucas coming on on the right, in front of the back three. In fact, the pundit suggested that he would rather see him there than Royal.

“It’ll be interesting to see where he comes on. I’ve always thought at some point he might try him in the right wing-back position,” he told BT Sport.

“He definitely has more quality than Emerson Royal. He has always worked his socks off defensively as well.”

It is certainly fantastic news for Tottenham to have Lucas back from injury. He is perhaps not someone who would feature in their strongest lineup.

But the £23 million man brings so much to the side. And he can play in a number of roles. That arguably makes him a perfect option for Antonio Conte to have up his sleeve.

Certainly, Tottenham fans would probably have little problem with Lucas playing at wing-back. It does appear that Conte is not entirely convinced about Matt Doherty and Djed Spence just yet.

Royal has been hugely frustrating for much of the campaign so far. He is a solid defender. However, he offers nothing like enough going forward.

That is obviously not a problem for Lucas who has those attacking instincts.

So in the games where Tottenham want to get onto the front foot, perhaps it would indeed make sense to use Lucas in that role more often.
