While Leeds United fans will probably refuse to get carried away about the prospect of signing a new striker before any confirmation arrives, it does appear that the Whites may have received a potential boost in their attempts to bring a goalscorer in.
French outlet L’Equipe has reported this week that Leeds want Jean-Kevin Augustin on loan for the rest of the season.
The RB Leipzig man is currently on loan at Monaco. However, his time in the Principality has not gone to plan and he has struggled for game-time.
L’Equipe claimed that Augustin wants to move to Elland Road. And the deal being discussed could see the promotion-chasers land the 22-year-old on loan with an option to buy.
And perhaps there is now reason for Leeds to now be a little more optimistic about Augustin’s situation.
Striker misses Monaco game
Since Augustin arrived at Monaco in September, he has not been missing from a single matchday squad in the top flight. However, that is about to change.
Monaco announced their squad for their clash with Strasbourg on Saturday evening. And interestingly, Augustin has not been named in the side.
Another French outlet Foot Mercato claims that the Frenchman is not injured. So that will certainly fuel the rumours that he could be on the way to Leeds.
It would be a massive boost if Leeds could land Augustin. He has struggled in Ligue 1. But he has previously impressed in the Bundesliga, scoring 12 goals in 42 appearances for Leipzig.
Of course, Augustin’s absence may be down to form. But plenty of Leeds fans will be hoping his omission is a sign that he will soon be on the move.
