According to France Football (via GFFN), Everton are weighing up a £36 million January move for RB Leipzig striker Jean-Kévin Augustin.
The France U21 star has really caught the eye over in the Bundesliga since joining the club in 2017 from Paris Saint-Germain.
In his first season with the German outfit he scored 11 goals in 37 games in all competitions.
Although not ridiculous numbers, Augustin still impressed with other aspects of his game such as running the channels and linking up with the midfield.
Augustin is still on 21, meaning he is still very raw and years away from his peak.
Everton could be onto a winner with Augustin, as he appears to share a lot of traits with a former Toffee.
Augustin could become Everton’s next Saha
Augustin is quite reminiscent of former Everton striker Louis Saha.
The Frenchman spent four seasons at Goodison Park following a move from Manchester United in 2009.
He scored 35 goals in 115 games in total for the club and was generally viewed as a successful signing by David Moyes.
What was notable about Saha was his finishing ability in and around the penalty box.
He was excellent at finding space in the area and then converting chances, usually via a first-time finish.
He was also strong on the ball, and this is something that is impressive about Augustin. Although shorter than his fellow countryman, he is difficult to shake of the ball just as Saha was.
Augustin has also shown signs of being a clinical finisher.
Everton owner Farhad Moshiri hinted on talkSPORT last month that the club wouldn’t be spending money on new players (via The Liverpool Echo), but Marco Silva and Marcel brands wouldn’t be going wrong securing a move for the promising Augustin.
