Liverpool beat AC Milan 3-1 on Tuesday evening, and the goals came from some unlikely sources at San Siro.
Indeed, Dominik Szoboszlai scored his first goal of the season against Milan, while Virgil van Dijk also got on the scoresheet.
Ibrahima Konate also scored against Milan, grabbing his first Liverpool goal in two-and-a-half years in the Champions League tie.
Speaking on the official Liverpool podcast after the game, Jay Spearing has been discussing Konate’s goal, and he says that he’s very surprised that the Frenchman doesn’t score more often.

Jay Spearing surprised by Ibrahima Konate’s goal record
Spearing discussed the fact that the £38m man doesn’t score often.
“It is, I found it surprising when it was mentioned that Konate hasn’t scored for Liverpool for two and a half years since that Man City semi-final at Wembley in the FA Cup. He’s a really physically imposing player, and when he goes forward in league games he is a threat, but I guess it just hasn’t happened for a while,” Spearing said.
Ibrahima Konate should score more
It is strange that Konate doesn’t score more for Liverpool.
In fact, Konate hasn’t scored a single league goal for the Reds.
The defender is a physically dominant player who should be able to bully opposition defenders from set-pieces.
However, for some reason, it doesn’t quite work out like that.
Konate isn’t as good from set-pieces as he probably should be, and that is equally as strange when you consider the fact that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are two of the best crossers from set plays in the Premier League.
Konate has already scored one this season, and hopefully he can build on that tally as the added set-piece threat is something that will add another dimension to this Liverpool side.
Having that extra threat from set-pieces can be the difference in big games.
Konate is a top player with plenty of potential, but he does need to start scoring more.
