Jay-Roy Grot will spend another season away from Leeds United on loan next term. It was confirmed this weekend that the Dutch talent would spend the 2019-20 season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem.

Grot has now been speaking about the move to the official website of the Eredivisie side. The Netherlands under-21 international is from Arnhem and was initially in the youth team at amateur side Vitesse 1892 prior to joining the NEC Nijmegen academy at 10-years-old.

“It feels great that as a born Arnhemmer I now really play in the Vitesse shirt. It is a boyhood dream for me because my heart is in Arnhem.

“Vitesse is a large and ambitious club. From the first moment, the feeling is good at Vitesse. It is a step up for me and I am going to give everything to contribute to the success of the club.”

Clearly, getting to play for his hometown club will be a great honor for the 21-year-old.

Leeds United fans will undoubtedly wish Grot well in his new endeavour. The powerful attacker joined Leeds in 2017. The Yorkshire Evening Post reported the deal to be worth a potential £1.5 million.

But he struggled to make an initial impact and joined VVV-Venlo last summer.

Grot ended the season strongly at De Koel, scoring three goals and assisting two in the final five games of the season. Some Leeds fans hoped that might mean a return for Grot this summer.

However, he is still not quite at the level necessary to play regularly in the Championship. Another season in the Eredivisie, with a better quality side, could help Grot develop into a future Leeds first-team option.
