Javier Hernandez to discuss West Ham future at end of season

Javier Hernandez has told West Ham United’s official website that he will discuss his future at the club when the season is over, with an exit becoming increasingly likely.

The 30-year-old’s spell at West Ham has not turned out as it was meant to. Signed in the summer of 2017 from German side Bayer Leverkusen, Hernandez has only found the back of the net 14 times.

The former Manchester United striker was the subject of a £7million (Sky Sports) offer from La Liga side Valencia in the January transfer window. However, the Hammers opted to block a move.

A 106-time Mexico international, Hernandez has just over a year remaining on the three year deal he signed in the summer of 2017. He told the Hammers’ official website that he will discuss his future in the summer.

“I’m only thinking about Cardiff, working for the coach to give me the chance to start again, play my best, score goals and help the team. That’s my future at the moment, as for the rest we will speak when the season is over, right now we just need to play well so we can finish in a European spot,” Hernandez said.

TBR’s view

Hernandez has failed at West Ham. The Mexican simply has not proved to be as effective as the super sub he became under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Spotrac claims the striker earns an enormous £140,000 at the London Stadium. That figure is astounding for a player that has managed just five Premier League goals this season.

It is bewildering that West Ham rejected £7million and the chance to get him off the books in January. With two transfer windows remaining before his contract expires, West Ham must accept anything that comes their way.
