Javier Hernandez proved why he’s been on the fringes at West Ham

Javier Hernandez made just his second Premier League start of the season on Saturday against Leicester City and proved why he’s been on the fringes under manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The Hammers ended up drawing 1-1 away at Leicester, as the hosts finally made the most of their extra man advantage with a late Wilfred Ndidi goal.

Pellegrini’s side had to play nearly 60 minutes with a man less following Mark Noble’s straight red card and proved that they are making improvements this season.

West Ham ace Hernandez got his chance to appear in the starting XI, as teammate Marko Arnautovic was ruled out of the contest due to illness.

The 30-year-old centre-forward failed to make the most of his opportunity, as he was not involved in any serious goalscoring opportunities and didn’t threaten the Leicester backline.

He is a brilliant poacher that can be a handful in the penalty area, but struggles to impact the game anywhere else on the pitch despite having a decent work-rate.

Arnautovic is far more suited to the central role than Hernandez, as he’s got the physicality and technical ability to create something out of nothing.

West Ham face Tottenham in the cup in midweek and it will be intriguing to see if Hernandez gets another chance to impress.
