Jurgen Klopp is leaving Liverpool and Jason McAteer believes Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is the perfect man for the job.

Klopp’s announcement yesterday was a huge surprise and there’s been plenty of chat since about just who could replace him.

The likes of Xabi Alonso and Roberto de Zerbi are among the early frontrunners for the job.

However, more names are bound to be thrown into the mix and according to former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is the ideal candidate.

McAteer backs Ange Postecoglou for Liverpool

Speaking on BEIN Sports about the ideal scenario for Liverpool when it comes to replacing Klopp, McAteer believes that Postecoglou is the one he’d choose if he could right now.

“I think he’s charismatic, I like his brand of football, he’s got a CV. By the way, he’s managed around the world, he knows what he’s doing. He’s dealt with the Harry Kane situation. Is it too soon? That’s a different argument. But if I could pick anyone and just put them in there right now, I’d probably go Postecoglou,” McAteer said.

Postecoglou has taken the Premier League by storm since coming in at Tottenham. His Spurs side are well in the race for the top four at minimum and cannot be counted out of the title race either.

Near impossible

While there’s always a chance for any manager to move on and go elsewhere, it would be one of the biggest surprises in football if Ange Postecoglou went to Liverpool.

McAteer does make a good point about him being a good fit for the Reds and he’d certainly get them playing attacking and exciting football.

But with Tottenham backing Postecoglou so much and him obviously impressing, it would be nigh on impossible for Liverpool to snatch him away.

As it stands, then, the other names seem more gettable for the Reds.
