Jason Holt’s Rangers career looks in doubt due to mixed form at Fleetwood

When Steven Gerrard arrived as Rangers manager this summer, he made quite a few changes.

Plenty of players arrived and many departed Ibrox, either on loan or permanently.

One player who was told that they didn’t have a short-term future at Rangers was Jason Holt.

Subsequently, he went on loan to Fleetwood Town in League One, where he has teamed up with Joey Barton.

But Holt’s inconsistent form is damaging his chances of breaking back into the Rangers team in the future.

The 25-year-old has played 16 games for the Trawlermen but has blown hot and cold.

The ex-Hearts man had been at Rangers for three seasons before this summer’s loan move, helping them win promotion back to the Scottish Premiership and consolidate their place in the top division.

But with Rangers performing well this season, Holt’s chances of a recall are slim.

Loan duo Lassana Coulibaly and Ovie Ejaria seem to have replaced Holt in the Rangers side.

And with the likes of Ryan Jack, Graham Dorrans, Jordan Rossiter and Scott Arfield in their ranks, Rangers are not short in this department.

Moreover, Holt is being outperformed by Greg Docherty, who is impressing on loan at Shrewsbury Town.

Holt needs to really up his game for Fleetwood or risk being permanently axed by Rangers in the near future.
