The Daily Record have claimed that Jason Holt is to return to Rangers after an injury he suffered with Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town is set to rule him out until the end of the season.
Holt, 26, was made surplus to requirements by Steven Gerrard last summer after the Liverpool legend signed Lassana Coulibaly, Scott Arfield and has since brought in Glen Kamara and Steven Davis.
He was allowed to leave and teamed up with Rangers flop Barton, who entered his first foray into management with English League One side Fleetwood. But after a very good season, it has ended on a bad note.
He was withdrawn after just 14 minutes of Fleetwood’s 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley on March 30 and Barton has now stated that it looks like it will rule Holt out of action for the rest of the campaign.

“He had the scan this week and it looks like it is the end of his season. He will certainly struggle to return,” Barton said. “He got stretchered off in the game and it looked to me like medial ligament damage.”
TBR’s view
Holt has clocked up 36 appearances in all competitions for Barton’s side this season and impressed. Sitting at the base of Barton’s midfield, he has even scored twice against Plymouth and Crewe.
However, competition in the middle of the park at Ibrox is fierce. There is little chance that he will regain his place in the Gers side under Gerrard – despite having a contract until the summer of 2020.
It remains to be seen where Holt’s future lies, but the chances are that it will not be in Glasgow.
