Jason Cundy has made a criticism about the impact of Gareth Bale since he signed for Tottenham in the summer and is questioning what his future holds.
After becoming a superstar name at Spurs as a youngster, Bale rejoined the North London club in the summer window on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.
The 31-year-old attacker fell out of favour with Spanish giants Madrid despite winning four Champions League titles with them and that resulted in a return to England.
But the Wales international has just three goals in 12 appearances so far this season.
The left-footed winger has featured just four times in the Premier League this campaign, with most of his opportunities coming in cup competitions.
Cundy feels underwhelmed by Bale’s contribution and was mystified that he was only used as a substitute in the weekend’s FA Cup win over non-league Marine, albeit the fact he’s only just returned from a calf problem may have impacted the though process of manager Jose Mourinho.
“It’s looking like an increasingly strange signing, isn’t it?” Cundy told talkSPORT when discussing Bale.
“I was looking forward to seeing what Gareth Bale was going to turn up at Spurs and what we were going to see. We haven’t seen anything. We’ve not seen anything of him.
“So far, you have to say he’s been a bad signing. He’s not really got the game time. He looks happier. Not to start [against Marine] I found very odd. I just wonder what the future does hold for Gareth at Spurs because he’s on a huge contract?
“Spurs fans will be largely disappointed that he’s not been given more of a chance. Question is, why hasn’t he? Does Jose look at something and think you’re not quite what I thought I was going to get.”

TBR’s View:
It’s hardly the biggest surprise that Bale hasn’t hit the ground running in the opening few months of his Spurs return, as he’s not played regular football in the past couple of years.
He’s not quite the speedster that fans remember from his first spell at the club and his game has evolved, but he can’t quite seem to cement a position in Mourinho’s XI.
If the Welshman can continue building up towards top speed, there is certainly a position up for grabs in the best line-up in the right-winger slot and the club have such a hectic fixture schedule that he will get games.
As for his future, Spurs will surely be reluctant to fork out a huge sum on his wages next year if this season’s loan doesn’t improve.
