Jason Cundy was left blown away by the performances of Tottenham duo Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Winks on Wednesday night.
Spurs ended up suffering a 1-0 defeat at home against German opposition RB Leipzig, who showed why they are in the Bundesliga title mix in their domestic league.
Timo Werner’s second-half penalty gave Leipzig the narrow lead on aggregate and Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made some eye-catching saves to keep the contest alive.
Jose Mourinho’s side now have to overturn the deficit of their Champions League last-16 tie when they travel to Germany for the second leg on 10 March.
Cundy was left majorly impressed by the midfield pair of Lo Celso and Winks despite them ending up on the losing side.
They partnered each other in the centre of the park in a 4-4-2 formation and showed their quality on the ball against an opponent full of energy.
“Spurs had chances, their goalkeeper actually made some decent saves. One free-kick from Lo Celso, who was excellent. Him and Winks were outstanding. You can see why he’s forced his way into Jose’s team,” Cundy told talkSPORT.
Lo Celso once again showed why he’s becoming a serious fan favourite with his latest display and that it was genius to sign him on a permanent basis.
The 23-year-old Argentine is a creative playmaker that can slot in anywhere across the midfield and he looked a serious threat against Leipzig.
He’s going to be crucial in providing chances moving forward and he already looks like a replacement for Christian Eriksen.
Winks, 24, put in the kind of mature display in the midfield that makes him a regular starter and he tried to keep the hosts ticking over under difficult circumstances.
