Jason Cundy has told TalkSPORT that he is beginning to doubt Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, with the club’s recent form way below par according to the former Spurs man.
Spurs suffered a dismal defeat to Newcastle United at home on Sunday afternoon, with Brazilian Joelinton scoring for Steve Bruce’s side to ease the pressure on Rafa benitez’s replacement on Tyneside. Newcastle won 1-0.
Since the defeat, plenty of criticism has been directed at Spurs after Pochettino claimed after the match that his squad is the most unsettled it has been since he took over. That is despite beating Aston Villa and drawing with Manchester City.
Cundy, who played for both Spurs and Chelsea throughout his career, believes something is not right at Tottenham after the club have suffered 20 defeats in all competitions over the past 12 months.
“I like the way he coaches players, he brings young players on, gets the best out of them and makes them better. But then you look back on their record over the last year, in all competitions they’ve lost 20 games over the last 12 months – that’s a horrendous record,” Cundy said.
“You can’t do that, you can’t keep doing that. There’s something weird about Spurs right now. Something is definitely not right.”
TBR’s view – Is Pochettino under pressure from the Tottenham sack?
Cundy is renowned for his outspoken views, but his claim that losing 20 matches in 12 months for a club of Tottenham’s size is not good enough is spot on. Spurs – if they are to challenge for honours – cannot lose even half of that figure.
This season, they have already lost one of three league games. So, is Pochettino under pressure from the Tottenham sack? Certainly, if Spurs continue to lose games at such a high rate, then yes.
