Jarrod Bowen impressed by West Ham 23-year-old who was overlooked last season
West Ham star Jarrod Bowen has praised teammate Nathan Holland after his display on Tuesday in a pre-season friendly
The Hammers played two separate pre-season friendlies yesterday, as manager David Moyes decided to separate his squad.
West Ham drew 0-0 with Leyton Orient in an uneventful match. Meanwhile, a separate Irons team, led by assistant Stuart Pearce, beat Northampton Town 2-1.
Bowen, who was involved in the opening goal, started in attack against Northampton alongside 23-year-old Holland.
It was a difficult 2020/21 season for Holland because he was overlooked by Moyes, as he didn’t play a single first-team minute.
However, he impressed 24-year-old senior winger Bowen against Northampton.
“The fact so many of the young players got good minutes was great,” Bowen said.
“You look at Nathan Holland in the first half and he was really bright and lively, and that’s been a feature all week of the younger lads who have been given the opportunity to come here with us.
Can forgotten West Ham man Holland build on friendly performance?
For Holland, surely he can’t spend another year without senior football.
The winger didn’t play a single first-team game last season for West Ham. In addition, he didn’t feature much for the Under-23s either.
At the age of 23 he needs to be experiencing first-team football, so surely a loan makes sense this summer if he can’t break into David Moyes’ plans.
However, West Ham are going to need a larger squad due to European commitments.
This is such an important pre-season during the next few weeks which will determine the wide player’s immediate future.
