Jarrad Branthwaite shares what he told Everton teammate Anthony Gordon before Chelsea clash

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has revealed what he told Toffees teammate Anthony Gordon ahead of the Chelsea game.

The two Everton youngsters combined superbly to score the equaliser for Rafa Benitez’s side at Stamford Bridge.

Everton fell behind in the 69th minute as Reece James set up Mason Mount to slot home at the near post.

However, Gordon provided the assist for Branthwaite to draw level and claim a hard-fought point against the Premier League high-flyers.

The Everton academy graduate swung a brilliant cross in at the back post for Branthwaite to divert into the net.

The Goodison Park outfit struggled to get many chances on board – three on target throughout their game.

However, they made it count and will head back to Merseyside with a point.

Speaking after the game, Branthwaite said Everton worked on similar routines the day before.

The 19-year-old had told Gordon to keep delivering those balls in – and on Thursday, it certainly reaped dividends.

“We worked on it in training yesterday,” Branthwaite told BT Sport (via BBC Sport).

“I got a few chances round the back, and I said to Anthony Gordon before the game just to keep delivering those balls in.

“When it was coming in I was like ‘right, I better score here…’.”

Everton are 14th in the table following the draw in London.
