Jarrad Branthwaite has selected teammate James Rodriguez when asked the most skilful player in Everton training.

Branthwaite, 19, is a talented young defender who’s currently with Rafael Benitez’s first-team squad at Goodison Park. The centre-back was on the bench for the 3-1 win over Southampton at the weekend in the Premier League opener.

He’s picked out Toffees playmaker Rodriguez when asked who’s the most skilful in Everton training.

Interestingly, the majority in the Everton squad voted for Alex Iwobi.

“James Rodriguez, his feet are a joke really. The things he can do with the ball, amazing,” Branthwaite said.

Rodriguez missed the Southampton fixture due to isolation, so it’s going to be a massive boost when he becomes available again.

The 30-year-old attacking midfielder is someone who’s played at the elite level and showed his ability last year during his debut season with the Toffees.

It’s extremely exciting for supporters that they get to watch the Colombian in the flesh this campaign.

James Rodriguez still the diamond for Everton

Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are undoubtedly two key attackers in the Everton ranks. They are both going to be vital scoring goals to hopefully launch a European bid this season.

However, Rodriguez can add an X-factor when he’s back.

The left-footer managed six goals and nine assists in just 26 games last season, so it’s all about staying fit.
