Report: Tottenham could sell their 'phenomenal' defender within hours, player is open to leaving North London
Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga could be an AC Milan player within the coming hours, according to reports from Italy.
Milan News is reporting that contacts between Milan and Tottenham have ‘intensified’ in the last day or so and that the next few hours could even see a deal agreed for Tanganga. It’s reported that the defender has come around to the idea of joining the Serie A champions and is open to the deal being done.
The update comes just days after reports claimed Milan had initiated contact with Spurs over the defender. Tanganga has dropped down the pecking order a tad under Antonio Conte and with Spurs signing new players, there is expected to be a mini exodus of current squad players.
Tanganga, who was branded as having the potential to be a ‘phenomenal‘ player by Tottenham coaching staff, has three years to run on his contract. Spurs, then, will hope to bring in a decent fee for the 23-year-old. The defender will leave the club having made over 40 first-team appearances.
Tanganga will be keen to follow the lead of fellow young English defender, Fikayo Tomori. The AC Milan star left Chelsea for Serie A and has been a revelation ever since.
TBR’s View: Tanganga A Good Age To Leave Tottenham
The example of Tomori is probably a big factor for Tanganga here. The 23-year-old has done well with Spurs but it does appear unlikely he’s going to be a regular under Conte.
With that in mind, pastures new are probably the best idea right now. And in fairness, joining the Italian champions is hardly a step down from Tottenham.
Tanganga can have himself a fine old career in Italy and push on into the future. Spurs, meanwhile, can expect to pocket a nice chunk of change if they do sell permanently.
