Former Tottenham star Jan Vertonghen has sent a hilarious message on social media to Heung-Min Son after he won an individual award on Thursday.
Spurs attacker Son won the Puskas Award at the FIFA Best awards for his individual goal last season against Burnley.
The 28-year-old scored a stunning goal in a 5-0 Premier League win over Burnley last December, which saw him dribble the ball from the edge of his own box up the other end of the pitch and finish emphatically.
It was a sensational individual goal with pace and directness that has been recognised with the award, edging out goals from Barcelona’s Luis Suarez and Flamengo’s Giorgian De Arrascaeta.
Benfica defender Vertonghen, who spent eight years as a Spurs player before leaving in the summer, technically got the assist for Son’s solo goal as it was his challenge in the box that allowed the ball to fall at his feet.
33-year-old Vertonghen sent a message on Instagram to ex-teammate Son after he won the award.
TBR’s View:
Aged 28, Son now looks like he’s playing as good as he’s ever been, and he’s scored some stunning goals in a Spurs shirt, albeit none quite as good as the one against Burnley.
The left-winger appears to have taken his game up another level this season, scoring 14 goals and setting up seven assists in just 20 games across all competitions.
It’s well documented that Spurs have a world-class talent in their ranks with centre-forward Harry Kane, but Son deserves to be considered right there with him in that elite category.
