Jan Vertonghen reportedly pricing himself out of Fiorentina move

Italian outfit Fiorentina are set to drop their interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen over his wage demands.

That is according to a report from The Times, who suggest Inter Milan as the current favourites for the Belgian.

The veteran defender is out of contract at the end of the month and Fiorentina have recently been linked with his services.

The defender is known to like the city of Florence and La Viola were hoping to make him an integral member of their first-team squad.

However, his apparent £3.5 million-a-year salary demands are ‘too excessive’ for Fiorentina and the Serie A side may need to move on.

The report also has an update on his current situation at Tottenham. Vertonghen has not yet agreed a short-term deal to see out the season with Spurs, but it is suggested the club are ‘confident that he will’.

Vertonghen is bound to have plenty of suitors for his next club and he will undoubtedly want to command a decent salary from what will likely be his large big payday.

Tottenham fans will just be hoping they have not already seen the last of Vertonghen in a Spurs kit, as he could prove useful in the club’s battle for European football.
