Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier completed a loan switch to Bayern Munich on Thursday.

Thursday was a busy day for Spurs on the transfer front. Radu Dragusin completed his move to N17, while Dier and Djed Spence left on loan.

Dier, whose Tottenham contract expires at the end of the season, has linked up with Bayern on loan until the summer, with an option to make the move permanent.

According to ESPN, Bayern will pay a fee of between €2million and €4million to make the deal for the England international permanent, depending on performances.

Given Dier’s contract at Spurs only runs until the end of the season, there’s a good chance he has already played his last game for the club he joined close to a decade ago.

Jan Vertonghen, who played alongside the 29-year-old in the 2010s, was among those who reacted to the news with a heavy heart.

Spurs shared a video of Dier’s farewell message to the N17 faithful on their Instagram, and Vertonghen replied with a teary-eyed emoji.

Emotional occasion as Eric Dier leaves Tottenham Hotspur

It’s always a shame when a stalwart leaves the club where he has plied his trade for many years.

Tottenham have seen three such players depart in the last six months alone. Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and now Dier have all left.

Dier was an important player under Mauricio Pochettino as Spurs regularly challenged for the Premier League title in the 2010s and reached the Champions League final in 2019.

The 29-year-old, who Spurs bought from Sporting Lisbon for a reported £4million in 2014, has made 364 competitive appearances for the Lilywhites.

However, Dier has been out of favour under Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, with just four Premier League appearances under his belt this season.

And with Dragusin now through the doors at Hotspur Way, Dier would’ve slipped further down the pecking order.

It’s the kind of transfer that’s good for all parties, but it’s still an emotional occasion. Best of luck to Dier at Bayern.
