Spurs icon Jan Vertonghen has reacted to the incident involving Giovani Lo Celso and John Fleck in Sundayโ€™s Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Early in the second half of Spursโ€™ meeting with Sheffield United, Lo Celso found himself on the turf as he and Fleck fought for the ball.

The Blades man caught the Spurs midfielder on the side of the head with his studs, leaving Lo Celso in agony and requiring treatment from the Tottenham physio.

VAR reviewed the incident for a potential red-card offence, but no further action was taken.

And Vertonghen was not impressed with VAR in wake of the controversial decision:

Lo Celso was later taken off by Ryan Mason and was spotted in the stands with an ice pack and bandaging around his head.

However, Spurs had the last laugh as they ran out 4-0 winners, Gareth Bale netting a hat-trick and Son Heung-min adding a fourth.

The result moves Tottenham into fifth place in the Premier League table, five points off Chelsea with four games left to play.
