Jamie Walker struggles suggest Rangers dodged a bullet

A year ago saw Hearts midfielder Jamie Walker join League One side Wigan Athletic. As reported by Edinburgh News, he cost the Lactics £300,000.

Rangers were left disappointed by the move. The Gers had also desperately wanted to sign the talented midfielder. As reported by the Daily Record, Rangers had previously had a £600,000 bid for the player rejected, with Hearts demanding £1 million from a Scottish rival for the player.

A year since he decided to go elsewhere, Rangers fans are probably not overly concerned. Walker has not had a massive impact at Wigan. He started just one game in the second half of their successful promotion campaign last season.

With that in mind, Wigan loaned him out in the summer. He joined Peterborough United until the end of the season in the hope of helping the Posh to a promotion push.

However, he struggled to find form at London Road and had played just 20 minutes of League One football since October. With that in mind, Wigan recalled him last week.

He is now back at Wigan and after his failed loan spell it is likely the club will try and find him another location more suitable.

Rangers fans meanwhile are enjoying the form of Ryan Kent, the promise of Glenn Middleton and the impending arrival of Jordan Jones under manager Steven Gerrard.

Walker does not look like a player they are missing out on at Ibrox.
