Jamie Vardy has agreed a four-year contract extension with Leicester City, the Premier League winners have announced.
Vardy has decided to turn down a move to Arsenal after the club agreed an improved four-year deal with the striker’s representatives. The contract will be signed when the 29-year-old returns from Euro 2016.
The England striker will now lead the Champions League charge for Claudio Ranieri’s English top flight champions next season, dealing a transfer blow to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who will now be forced to turn his attention elsewhere.
Vardy scored an incredible 24 goals in 36 Premier League appearances last term, during which time he broke Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record for goals scored in consecutive matches.
This news comes as a huge boost for Ranieri’s side, who were preparing for somewhat of an exodus over the coming months, with several of last season’s title-winning stars expected to move on to pastures new.
Nonetheless, the decision made by Vardy to remain at the King Power Stadium could encourage the majority of his team-mates to follow suit – a sentiment that will be music to the ears of Foxes’ supporters.
A Leicester City club statement read: “Leicester City have today agreed with the representatives of Jamie Vardy to extend the England international’s contract with the Premier League champions for a further four years.
Here is how Twitter reacted to news of the Leicester forward’s new contract:
Arsenal fans were a little upset, although they weren’t prepared to admit it…
If Vardy has no ambition that's fine by me. He's only had one good season. We'll sign someone much better and younger.

Arsenal getting slated over Vardy when nobody has pointed out just how much he has bottled the transfer. He knows it's a step to far #Afc

Many were full of respect for the loyalty he has shown…
Fantastic deal for Vardy to get four years at 29. His loyalty is admirable, but still a surprise. Might work out well for all parties…

Some pondered Arsenal’s next move…
Interesting where Arsenal go next, Morata the likely option but the £50m Real Madrid want isn't historically Wenger money.

Lacazette and Chicharito.
Two targets which are very much plausible and are better signings than Vardy.
