'He's a nightmare': Jamie Shackleton says Leeds have a 'top-class' youngster in the ranks
Leeds United have had their fair share of young talents emerge over the years and one of them, Jamie Shackleton, has suggested the club should be excited over the emergence of Crysensio Summerville.
Summerville has already made a couple of Premier League appearances this season as Marcelo Bielsa looks ready to put his trust in the teenager winger more regularly.
The 19-year-old has been excellent at under-23s level for some time, impressing those at Thorp Arch and beyond. One of those to be impressed by Summerville has been his teammate, Jamie Shackleton.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Post about the current squad and his own improvements, Shackleton admitted that trying to mark Summerville in training is hard work.
“Coming up against top-class forwards and wingers that we have inside the club definitely helps,” Shackleton commented
“Cry Summerville, is a nightmare to mark. He’s really sharp. For his size he’s very, very strong. I do my best to keep up with him and the other wingers. We’ve got some very sharp wingers at the club.”
Summerville is likely to get more chances as the season progresses under Bielsa. The way Leeds play, with two really wide wingers, naturally dictates the 19-year-old will get opportunities.
TBR’s View: Summerville the next big thing at Leeds?
He could very much be that player. His talent is immense and there’s a big hope inside Elland Road that they’ve got a real player on their hands.
The key for Summerville will be to take his chances when they come. For now, he’s not going to dislodge the likes of Raphinha and Harrison.
But when the chances do come along, Summerville will need to show Bielsa he is very much up to the task. If he can do that, then the sky could be the limit for the Leeds starlet.
