Jamie Shackleton has posted on Instagram after Leeds United beat West Bromwich Albion in the top-of-the-table Championship clash, with the Leeds youngster going off with an injury at half-time.
The 19-year-old midfielder started once again for Leeds in the middle of the park as Pablo Hernandez and Adam Forshaw remain on the injury table. The Leeds academy product starred during the first half against West Brom.
Leeds scored the only goal of the game just after the half-hour mark, as Gjanni Alioski’s effort was turned in to his own net by former Leeds centre-back Kyle Bartley. In what was an open game, both sides had chances to score.
Shackleton, though, was forced off at half-time through injury after shining in the first 45 minutes alongside Mateusz Klich. It is yet to be seen how long Shackleton will be sidelined for, and the youngster sent an Instagram message to Leeds fans.
TBR’s view – Shackleton injury a blow, but Liam Cooper even more so
Shackleton has been in excellent form since coming into the team in place of Forshaw. His driving runs, lung-busting stamina and combative style of play has added an extra dimension to Bielsa’s side.
It is a blow to lose Shackleton and fans will be hoping it is nothing serious. But the injury to skipper Cooper is so much more worrying for Whites fans, given the importance of Cooper and the lack of cover behind him.
Tyler Roberts is expected to come in for Shackleton, while Mateusz Bogusz, Helder Costa and more can play in that position. But at centre-back, Gaetano Berardi will have to cover Cooper, though he is naturally a full-back.
