Jamie Redknapp has put forward Liverpool’s Sadio Mane as someone that should be in contention for Premier League player of the year so far and has raved about his ability.
The Senegalese attacker has developed into a huge fan favourite at Anfield since he joined from Southampton back in 2016 and is key to Jurgen Klopp’s team.
He’s played 38 games across all competitions so far this campaign for the Reds, scoring 18 goals and supplying 12 assists.
The 27-year-old is an explosive left-winger with pace and power, plus he forms part of a deadly front trio alongside teammates Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
Redknapp has been blown away by Mane this campaign and picked out his individual strength, something which is often overlooked.
“When you look back at when they signed him from Southampton there were a few raised eyebrows, but he’s just been incredible,” Redknapp said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
“He’s made out of granite, he’s so strong, he’s brilliant in the air, he attacks the back post as good as anybody considering he’s not the biggest and he can finish off either foot. He is just a phenomenal player. An absolute machine every single game.”
Salah has been Liverpool’s king during the last couple of years, but there is an argument to suggest that Mane has just about nicked that crown off him this campaign and is the top dog on Merseyside right now.
Mane has got his side over the line in the league on so many occasions this season and has definitely taken his own game up another gear.
He is so difficult for full-backs to mark in-game due to his movement from wide to central positions and he’s started to master arriving at the far post.
