Jamie Redknapp waxes lyrical about Chelsea star Mason Mount

Jamie Redknapp has named Chelsea star Mason Mount in his Premier League Team of the Season on the Sky Sports website.

The midfielder was in fine form during 2020/21 and he has been given the nod by Redknapp over Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes.

Mount has been in fine form over the past 12 months. During the current campaign, he’s fired nine goals and claimed eight assists for the Blues.

Under Thomas Tuchel’s stewardship, Mount has really started to flourish and he looks set for a bright future.

Gareth Southgate will name his England squad later today for Euro 2020 and Mount is set to be integral this summer.

Redknapp has been mightily impressed with the youngster and spoke kindly of him when naming his Team of the Season.

He told Sky Sports: “Mason Mount has been brilliant this season for both Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel.

“He’s so consistent – and gets in ahead of Bruno Fernandes, for me, as a lot of his goals have come from penalties.”

Mount is developing into a fine player at Stamford Bridge and he looks set for a bright future.

After loan spells with Vitesse and Derby County, he has stepped up to life in the Chelsea first-team with aplomb.

The challenge is to continue developing and ensure he makes the No.10 position his own under Tuchel.

TBR View: Redknapp makes valid points on Mount

Fernandes has enjoyed a decent season but it’s no secret that he does score a lot of penalties.

There have also been question marks over the Portuguese performer when it comes to games against the better teams.

Mount came of age during the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid, scoring in the second leg.

At 22 the future is incredibly bright for the £88,000-a-week attacking midfielder and there is no ceiling to his potential.

Picking Mount over Fernandes will be sure to ruffle a few feathers in Manchester – but Blues supporters will believe Redknapp has some valid points.
