Jamie Redknapp tears into Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho

Jamie Redknapp has told Give Me Sport that Jose Mourinho needs to stop feeling sorry for himself as Tottenham Hotspur’s injury problems continue to mount, comparing his lack of striker to Manchester United and Chelsea.

Since Mourinho has taken over from Mauricio Pochettino in the Tottenham dugout, the Portuguese boss has seen Moussa Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and others suffer injuries. Erik Lamela was missing on Sunday.

The signings of Steven Bergwijn and Gedson Fernandes have softened the blow of so many injuries, but Spurs remain without a recognised senior striker. Troy Parrott managed just his third senior appearance against Wolves, as a substitute.

Asked about Tottenham’s top four chances and their injury woes, Redknapp responded by saying Mourinho needs to stop feeling sorry for himself and bemoaning his side’s lengthy injury list – comparing to Chelsea and Manchester United’s problems.

“Chelsea have not had Tammy Abraham as well for a while, that makes a difference, Man United are without their best striker. Everyone else seems to get on with it,” Redknapp said. “You just don’t know with Jose.

“Things could just start to fall apart with him, if he falls out with a couple of players. The way he talks about ‘I haven’t got the players’, I think the players that are playing, I don’t know how that makes them feel. I wouldn’t like it, that’s for sure.

“They’ve got so much to look forward to. The other day, he could play Dele Alli as a striker, play him as a number nine and get Lucas running off him, but it’s always ‘oh, I’m so hard-done-by’. No, you’re not.”

TBR’s view – Time for Parrott… or a free agent.

Redknapp is right to a degree, but Spurs do lack a talismanic striker that can hold the ball up. Yes, Spurs received a boost in that Harry Kane could return sooner rather than later, but in the mean time, they need a striker.

That should come in the form of Parrott, who has hardly been given a chance despite his form for the club’s UEFA Youth League and Under-23 sides. If he is not ready, then it needs to be a free agent.
