Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has been described by Jamie Redknapp as an “incredible” and “frightening” player.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a spectacular season, registering 14 goals and nine assists from 41 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Foden has been increasingly influential in recent weeks, earning plaudits aplenty for his role in the Champions League quarter-final win over Borussia Dortmund.

And on Wednesday night, he once again delivered a superb performance as the Citizens came from behind to run out 2-1 winners at Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The England international finished a smart move to draw City level and was a constant threat for Villa’s defenders en route to a win which moved his side 11 points clear at the top.

“Foden, Gundogan and Bernardo Silva were majestic,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“It was incredible the way they moved the ball, chased, closed down – they are great examples to any young footballer.

“And Foden… I have got excited by young talents before but this kid is the real deal. For a young player to play with so much flair and aggression; he’s incredible.

“Sometimes you worry when kids get too much, too early, are they going to lose that hunger and desire but if that kid keeps accelerating at this rate, anything is possible. He’s frightening.

“He is effective, he gets into the box, he gets into danger areas. He is so versatile and that is what makes him such a beautiful player to watch… he is phenomenal.”

What else can be said about Foden that hasn’t been said already? At 20 years old, he is one of the standout players in one of the strongest teams in world football.

No doubt about it, he’s got a stellar career ahead of him and, as well as earning trophies for City, he’ll hopefully guide England to silverware too.
