Jamie Redknapp reacts to Thiago display in Liverpool win
Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports (broadcast on 12/9; 18:38) that Thiago Alcantara was incredible as Liverpool beat Leeds United on a dramatic day.
The Reds were one goal away from going top of the table as they won 3-0 at Elland Road.
Leeds had a golden chance early on. But from there, Jurgen Klopp’s men dominated the contest and absolutely blew their opponents away at times.
But perhaps no player on the pitch was more impressive than Thiago. The Spaniard was absolutely outstanding in the middle of the park.
No player on either side could match his tally of successful challenges (Whoscored). Meanwhile, only Joel Matip completed more passes than the 30-year-old.
And following the game, Redknapp suggested that he silenced a lot of doubters with his display against Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
“We questioned what it was going to be like in midfield,” he told Sky Sports. “Could Thiago handle the atmosphere? Could he handle the intensity? He was incredible today. He absolutely bossed that midfield.”
‘Incredible’ Thiago shuts many up with his display in Liverpool win at Leeds
Thiago has bizarrely come in for a lot of criticism during his time on Merseyside. Perhaps, he could have made more of an impact at times.
But no Liverpool player could have found the season easy last year. Consistency was a huge problem for Klopp’s side as players came in and left the treatment room.
Thiago looks to have stepped up once again at the start of this campaign.
And he absolutely glided around the park on Sunday. And he could have actually had a goal, but it was ruled out for offside.
Of course, there is a long way to go this season. But it certainly does appear that Thiago is ready to shut a lot of people up this term.
