Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports’ live post-match coverage of Arsenal’s win over Manchester United (broadcast on 1/11; 18:37) that he was impressed by Gabriel Magalhaes’s performance, while he labelled Thomas Partey the best player on the pitch.

The Gunners produced a superb performance at Old Trafford. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal from the penalty spot during the second-half.

Arsenal were on top for the large majority of the game. But they also required a superb rearguard display to ensure that the home side rarely looked like finding an equaliser.

Gabriel made a number of crucial challenges. As shown by Whoscored.com, the centre-back made five successful tackles. No player on the pitch made more.

Meanwhile, Partey was outstanding. His energy set the tempo for the contest. He won four tackles and made four clearances (via Whoscored).

And his performance prompted Redknapp to suggest that he was the standout performer.

“They had an energy, a desire about them to get the ball back. They were just better in every single department,” he told Sky Sports (18:37).

“I think, at the back, Gabriel was magnificent. Partey was the best player on the pitch. He looks like an incredible signing for them.”

Gabriel seems to have already established himself as a real leader at the back. Mikel Arteta’s men have had to deal with a number of defensive injuries this term, but Gabriel has been a constant for the Gunners.

Meanwhile, Partey has also made an inspired start to his Arsenal career. There is no question that his partnership with Mohamed Elneny came out on top in the middle of the park.

And with both players probably still finding their feet at the Emirates, you could understand why Arsenal fans may be incredibly excited about what Gabriel and Partey could achieve.
